On 22 April 2017, Earth Day, the inaugural March for Science was held as a global grassroots movement advocating for the importance of science, scientific integrity, and evidence-based policymaking. The event mobilized participants in more than 600 cities worldwide in response to growing concerns about the marginalization of science in public decision-making. The Alliance for Science at Cornell University participated as an official partner, supporting and helping organize marches in Washington, D.C., and in several countries across Africa and Asia through its Global Leadership Fellows and partner networks. Alliance-supported events emphasized the role of science in addressing societal challenges such as food security, public health, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development. The Alliance for Science’s involvement highlighted the global nature of the pro-science movement and its commitment to strengthening public engagement with science and policy. These photos cover Bangladesh, Ghana, Kenya, Hawaii, London, Nigeria, Philippines, Uganda, and Washington D.C.
