"Sticks in a Bundle Cannot Be Broken"
Treating "GMOs" as a bundled concept makes it difficult to evaluate them on a case by case basis.
What traits are being modified?
Who benefits?
Are there environmental risks?
What are the alternatives?
Zero tolerance towards GMOs prevents rational conversations. This keeps people from being able to make informed decisions about the food they purchase or grow.
Agriculture is facing enormous challenges. The climate is changing, water and land are becoming scarce, new diseases and pests threaten crops worldwide, and hundreds of millions of people still don't have access to adequate nutritious food.
The Cornell Alliance for Science believes science can help solve these challenges. We need to disaggregate the GMO concept so that farmers and consumers really know what's in their food.
