Farmers in Nigeria have enthusiastically adopted a genetically modified cowpea that was developed by Nigerian scientists to resist the destructive pod borer pest. Known as GM cowpea, PBR cowpea and Bt cowpea, this crop cuts pesticide use by 80% and helps farmers achieve the higher yields that contribute to food security.
